Competitive sport

Optimization of athletic performance through functional medicine.
At our Center for Functional Medicine, we offer specialized support for competitive athletes. Our expertise focuses on optimizing athletic performance while promoting the well-being of athletes. We understand that there are individual health challenges in competitive sports and offer customized solutions.

SYMPTOMS

Overtraining and exhaustion

Many competitive athletes struggle with the consequences of overtraining, including chronic fatigue and reduced performance.

Injuries and slow recovery:

Frequent or persistent injuries and prolonged recovery times are major challenges.

Nutrition and metabolic issues

Problems with nutrition and metabolism or an inadequate supply of (micro)nutrients can impair performance and general well-being.

Approach

Observations

Mitochondrial health plays a crucial role in sports performance. Mitochondria are small organelles in the cells that are often referred to as the „power plants of the cell“. They are crucial for energy production and fulfill several vital functions. Competitive athletes with optimized mitochondrial function often show improved endurance, faster regeneration and higher energy efficiency.

By and large, it is not uncommon to experience some persistent symptoms after recovering from a virus, which are medically referred to as „post viral syndromes“. We have known this for a long time after EBV or influenza infections.

Forms of therapy

In addition to individual nutritional advice and mental coaching, our therapeutic approaches in the field of competitive sport also include advanced methods for optimizing physical performance and cell regeneration:

  • Focus on mitochondria: Because mitochondria play a key role in the energy production of cells, we offer specialized treatments aimed at optimizing mitochondrial function. These include nutritional plans that support mitochondrial health, as well as specific supplements aimed at improving energy efficiency and endurance performance.

  • Intermittent hypoxia-hyperoxia therapy (IHHT): IHHT is an innovative method that we offer at our center. This therapy uses alternating periods of oxygen deprivation and oxygen abundance to improve the body’s ability to adapt and increase mitochondrial performance. IHHT has been shown to be effective in accelerating recovery, increasing stress resistance and improving overall endurance.

This combination of nutrition-based strategies and innovative therapeutic approaches enables us to maximize the physical performance and health resilience of our athletes. We support them in achieving their athletic goals while promoting long-term health and well-being.

„Competitive sport is not just about training and nutrition — it’s also about cellular health and efficient regeneration. With a focus on mitochondria and modern therapies such as IHHT, we support athletes in developing their full potential.“

GOOD TO KNOW

We look forward to welcoming you to our clinic. We take enough time to understand your medical history. Based on your previous findings, the completed medical history form and our diagnostics, we will create a customized treatment plan for you. Please note that you should come with an empty stomach (water is permitted) to enable us to make an accurate diagnosis.

We attach great importance to cost transparency and will inform you of the costs incurred before treatment begins. Please note that private health insurance policies are very unlikely to cover all services. In such cases, you will have to bear the costs yourself. We will be happy to answer any questions you may have about insurance cover, co-payments or payment options.

To make your appointment with us as convenient as possible, we offer you the option of simply arranging your consultation online. You can choose between appointments of 30 or 60 minutes, depending on your needs. Alternatively, you can also leave us a message by phone and we will get back to you immediately to arrange your appointment.

To ensure effective communication, we ask you to select an appointment option online. Be it for a face-to-face appointment in the practice, a video consultation or a telephone consultation. Alternatively, you can also leave us a telephone message.

Please understand that e‑mail inquiries cannot be answered due to time constraints.

Please note that repeat prescription orders will be processed with sufficient lead time (14 days). For prescription requests, please send an e‑mail to: rezepte@zentrum-funktionelle-medizin.de

We are aware of our responsibility and devote the utmost attention to your concerns. The path of functional medicine requires patience and it takes experience to develop solutions that enable health in depth. In doing so, we conduct research and talk to other specialists and therapists until we have found a solution.

Book directly online
As an existing patient, you can book an appointment for your preferred date directly via the ‚arzt-direkt‘ portal.
