Our Centre for Functional Medicine also specializes in the treatment of eye diseases, in particular normal tension glaucoma, also known as Flammer syndrome. This condition is often the result of a particular vascular sensitivity and vascular dysregulation. SYMPTOMS

Fluctuating visual acuity and visual field defects

These can be the first signs of Flammer syndrome.

Cold extremities and hypersensitivity

Those affected often suffer from cold hands and feet and even Raynaud's syndrome. Headaches and migraines also occur more frequently.

Susceptibility to stress and environmental factors

An increased reaction to stress and external factors such as cold is characteristic of the syndrome.

Observations

Flammer syndrome describes symptoms and signs that result from a predisposition to increased (vascular) sensitivity. At the core of this syndrome is primary vascular dysregulation (PVD), characterized by an altered reactivity of the blood vessels, especially to cold or emotional stress. This dysregulation can have various consequences, from unpleasant sensations to serious vasospasms, which in rare cases can even cause tissue infarctions.

More commonly, PVD leads to an unstable oxygen supply and increased production of oxygen free radicals. This, if it exceeds the body's natural defense mechanisms, can lead to oxidative stress and slowly accumulating tissue damage.

Forms of therapy

Our approach focuses on analyzing each patient's individual symptoms and identifying the underlying causes of vascular dysregulation and its triggers. Treatment includes a combination of drug therapies, nutritional counseling, micronutrient therapy and stress management techniques.

Based on your previous findings, the completed medical history form and our diagnostics, we will create a customized treatment plan for you. Please note that you should come with an empty stomach (water is permitted) to enable us to make an accurate diagnosis.

We attach great importance to cost transparency and will inform you of the costs incurred before treatment begins. Please note that private health insurance policies are very unlikely to cover all services. In such cases, you will have to bear the costs yourself. We will be happy to answer any questions you may have about insurance cover, co-payments or payment options.
